How to add another user account to Android phone
If you have young children, it is normal for them to ask to use your smartphone or tablet to play some games or watch videos. But, if you allow them, you may find them messing with your private data and apps, or your social media accounts.
But, there is a solution, Android device users can add a new user to be able to protect your account from other users, and to be able to control the applications used by your children.
Creating one or more new accounts or user profiles on your Android phone requires a new Google account for each.
What are user profiles on Android?
If you have ever used a Windows computer, you may be familiar with the concept of multi user. In Windows, more than one person can create their own login information on the same device.
This is very similar to the user profiles feature on Android phones, mobiles and tablets. When you switch between users, it is as if you are switching to a different device in terms of applications, settings, background, and so on.
When you start setting up a new account on your Android phone, you will see that it is very similar to what appears in front of you when setting up a new phone immediately after purchasing it.
Steps to create an additional account on the Android phone
If you want to set up more than one user for your phone, it's simple, you just have to follow the steps below. However, this feature is not available for all Android phones. You can use it on Android phones running Lollipop (Android 5.0) and later, as well as tablets running KitKat (Android 4.4).
- Choose the Settings menu, and choose from it System.
Choose Advanced to see more options.
Select multiple users.
- There are some devices, when you open the settings, you press Users directly, while there are devices that do not support this feature.
Choose + Add user to create a new account, then OK to the pop-up message.
A second popup will prompt you to set up the new user.
- Click Set up now to switch to the user account.
Select Continue.
Enter your Google statement for the new account, then agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
- Set lock PIN or password as required.
Set up Google Assistant voice matching as required.
- You will be presented with options to add another email account, change font size, change wallpaper, and review additional apps, here you have to choose any of these or click No thanks.
When setting up a new user, by default, calls and text messages will be disabled in the new user profile. To enable this, log back into the Administrator account, and go to the Users list again. Click the gear icon next to your new username, then toggle the option to turn Phone calls and SMS messages on.
How do you move between users?
To return to the main user account, expand the notification bar, click on the profile icon and select the owner.
When the device is locked, all accounts on your device appear below the lock screen. To use the device as a specific user, touch the account circle on the lock screen.
How do you remove a user profile?
If you reach a point where you no longer need multiple profiles on your device, you can easily remove the extra profiles.
To remove the account, go to the Users screen in Settings. Touch the trash can icon next to the account to remove it, touch the delete button to confirm.
Unfortunately, there is no way to remove the administrator account, which is the account always used during the initial setup process, so you cannot transfer the device to the new user and make them the administrator. At this point, you will just have to reset the phone.
